Digital 3D Mammography

A mammogram is an X-ray picture of the breast that doctors use to look for early signs of breast cancer.  Mammograms are the best way to find breast cancer early, when it is easier to treat and before it is big enough to feel or cause symptoms.

Magruder is proud of our 3D mammography technology as well as our trained and compassionate staff who guide patients through their screening and testing.

Genius™ 3D Mammography™ exams include both 2D images and tomosynthesis scans. During the tomosynthesis-DIMENSIONAL portion of the exam, an X-ray arm sweeps in a slight arc over the breast, taking multiple images. A computer then converts the images into a stack of thin layers, allowing the radiologist to review the breast tissue one layer at a time. A Genius exam requires no additional compression and takes just a few seconds longer than a conventional 2D breast cancer screening exam.

In addition, Magruder also offers the SmartCurve™ breast stabilization system, which is clinically proven to deliver a more comfortable mammogram without compromising image quality, workflow or dose. The SmartCurve system features a proprietary curved surface that mirrors the shape of a woman’s breast to reduce pinching and allow better distribution of compression over the entire breast.

CAD or computer aided detection is a computer-based technology that helps the radiologist in identifying suspicious areas while reading a digitalized mammogram and helps give patients the most accurate results possible.  

Preparation for your exam:

On the day of your examination, please DO NOT use deodorant, perfume, powder, or cream on the areas of your underarms or breasts. It will be necessary to undress to the waist for the exam. You may find it more convenient to wear a blouse with a skirt or slacks, rather than a dress.
