Infusion Therapy

Infusion therapy is the administration of medications or nutrients directly into the body through a blood vessel, under the skin, or into a muscle. With current advances in treatment and technology, it now is possible to provide infusion therapy as an outpatient service. Sometimes infusion therapy begins in the hospital and then you can continue the therapy at home. Infusion therapy continues until you no longer need the medication.

Some of the most common reasons for infusion therapy: cancer, chronic pain, dehydration, gastrointestinal (GI) problems, heart failure, immunodeficiency disorders, malnutrition, neuromuscular disorders and serious infections. Complex medical conditions like Crohn's disease, hemophilia, multiple sclerosis, Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, hereditary angioedema (HAE) and rheumatoid arthritis can also be treated with specialty medications through infusion.
