Our surgical staff will help you prepare for surgery by giving you any pre-surgery instructions such as:
- if you can eat or drink before surgery
- if you should take your medications
- if you need to bathe or the clean the area being operated on
- if you need to bring someone with you to drive you home
- if you need to bring comfortable, loose fitting clothes for after surgery
On the day of surgery, you will enter through the Surgery Entrance at the front of the Magruder Hospital building so you can be registered and directed to your pre-surgery room. Nursing staff will help direct you from there. Your friend or family member that you brought with you can stay in your room or the surgery waiting room while you are in surgery.
Once your surgery is done, you will recover in a recovery area and then in your room for a short period of time to make sure you are able to eat, use the restroom and move around ok. Our surgery nurses will go over discharge instructions with you and whoever you brought with you. Be sure to ask any questions you might have, and they will also provide a phone number for you to call if you have any questions once you get home.
