Cardiac Rehab: A Bright Spot in Recovery

Art is a Cleveland native and he and his wife moved to the Marblehead area in 2021. In late 2022 Art had a check up and some follow up visits because of his family history of heart issues. Despite having no symptoms himself, some testing revealed that he needed surgery, and in January 2023 he had triple bypass surgery at University Hospitals in Elyria.

While talking to a neighbor about his impending surgery, the neighbor mentioned he too had had some cardiac issues and went through the Cardiac Rehab Program at Magruder. Magruder’s Cardiac Rehab is a powerful program of education and continuously monitored physical activity. It’s personalized and the nurse specialists are with you every step of the way. After the surgery, Art and his wife met with Lisa in Cardiac Rehab and he has been participating ever since.

Art attributes his enjoyment of cardiac rehab to the warm, friendly, community atmosphere in the department, and he really appreciates having medical personnel available to ask questions and bounce things off of. He says the staff creates an atmosphere of care and encouragement, and so does the group of participants who attend regularly and get to know one another. Art said he appreciates how both the staff and participants help make sure you are comfortable, especially when you’re the new person.

There’s sometimes a lot of laughter coming from cardiac rehab, and when we asked Art what that was about, he said it was because the people in there are ‘loving life.’
